I have created a presentation that explains why the alternative model of Professional Learning is necessary for my campus. The campus in which PL needs to change is a very small campus in which most teachers have been teaching for years. There are a few new teachers, but very few. It seems that everyone is stuck in the old ways and do not appear to like change. The circumstances at this campus are inadequate when it comes to new ideas, professional learning or technology.

I hope to open their eyes to new opportunities that could potentially be a positive influence at this campus. I feel that if changes are made and we move to this new model of PL, we will be making a difference in not only our personal learning but the students learning also. I hope by collaborating, working together as a team and exploring new ideas we can change the outlook on professional development and learning. I hope to make an impact on all teachers, staff and administrators. I feel that we need to take a long look at PL and decide what we need to gain from PL. We need to move away from the old ways of professional learning and create a new effective way of PL. I hope to do this by using new ideas and ways of communicating.

I will build my presentation using the 5 key principles of effective Professional Learning. I will create a story of ineffective PL and convey what effective PL can look like. I hope to guide my audience in professional learning and how making changes can make a difference. I will demonstrate where we are in our current PL and where we can be with anew movement in PL. I hope to convince and prove to my peers how we can look at the big picture and see the difference in professional learning. I understand that there will be some who fight the change, we will deal with them roadblocks as they arise. I will choose my battles at this point and keep moving forward.

My new world of professional learning will be effective, hands on, collaborative and concise. I hope to get administrators on board with having “work days” every week. If we could have early outs every Friday, we could use those hours to work together on the various topics, learning strategies and or new lessons. I believe that if we have this one day per week to focus, learn, train, collaborate and engage in learning, it could prove to be effective PL. I will fully embrace the new foundational beliefs, model them effectively and partner with my colleagues to conquer PL. Through my presentation I will demonstrate and reflect on professional learning and how I hope to change the current status quo.

The power point I have created is informational content that relates to this weeks’ reading and or videos. I have applied the principles to my presentation by using ideas from this weeks’ resources. I believe that the media I have created demonstrates professional learning as it has been and what a whole new concept of what professional learning can look like. My idea is to get teachers involved, to really dig deep and gain a true understanding of why we do what we do. I am motivated to make a difference in how we learn, because we need to makes changes in our learning so that we can advance our students’ learning.

My presentation takes’ into account Duarte’s presentation structure and relates to the 5 key principle of effective Professional Learning. My goal is to create professional learning that continues on, in which we will build upon. The professional learning will be significant and ongoing to allow time for teachers to learn a new strategy and experiment with the implementation problem. There will be ongoing support that continues throughout the implementation stage. Teachers’ will have the opportunity to explore, address specific challenges and engage in classroom practice. Initial exposure to a concept will allow teachers to engage themselves in the concept. Teachers’ will practice several approaches so they can participate actively in making sense of a new practice. Teachers will also model the new concepts so that they can understand the new practice. The content presented to teachers will be in their specific area, such as technology, math, English and such at their specific grade level. All teachers will be engaged and experience hands on learning.
